LIVE in the music room
Hello. My name is Debra Balfour. I am the Orff music instructor for Cherokee Elementary School. In the Orff approach, children make music with activities that are natural and enjoyable for the,: singing, rhyming, dancing and playing instruments. Songs are simple, short songs that relate to a child's world of fantasy and experience. This year I will be auditioning students for the Cherokee school choir.
This year I will be auditioning students for the Cherokee school choir. Students will be chosen based on the following criteria:
Ability: Singing skills: accuracy, range (A below middle C to high G), quality, (light, clear, resonant), diction, ability to sing in parts.
Attitude and self-control: All students must have excellent self-control skills, including the ability to take direction from many adults, and to be patient and cooperative with other students.
Responsibilty: Students are responsible for learning all of their music, memorizing their words and knowing the form on all their music and practicing their music at home.
Academics: Students must maintain good grades. Students will be monitored throughout the year.
N's and U's are unacceptable.
The learning process requires attentive listening, decision-making, concentration, cooperation, sensitivity to rhythm and tone, singing in tune, and playing with others in musical time. Above all, the Orff music program is meant to be enjoyed. We have an exciting year planned and I look forward to working with your child.
More information will be coming soon regarding choir auditions.
